Joy Kennedy, MLS Northwest Community Hospital Health Resource Library (recently retired) Arlington Heights, IL 60004 Courses:
Experience: I was a public librarian for many years before becoming a medical librarian. I've worked in special, academic and hospital libraries. I am past-chair of CAPHIS, an editor for the Journal of Hospital Librarianship, and currently serving as co-chair of the NAHRS Standards committee and on the HLS Standards committee. I was also on the HLS/NAHRS Vital Pathways followup committee. Many years ago I worked for the American Hospital Association Resource Center as Manager of Automated and Technical Services. One of my responsibilities was production of Hospital Literature Index where I gained knowledge of NLM's indexing practices. Retired 2012 from: Northwest Community Hospital is a 500 bed non-profit hospital in the northwest Chicago suburbs with Magnet status and many top 100 honors. We have the second busiest ER in the state (after Cook County Hospital in Chicago), several 24hr. treatment centers, home health agency, doctor's offices and some free neighborhood clinics. We have no religious or teaching affiliation but are a non-profit community hospital. Our hospital's web site is http://www.nch.org if you are interested. At my hospital I was very involved with various hospital committees: Patient Education Committee (where I created their intranet site), Continuing Medical Education Committee, Nursing Education Committee, and Research Council Committee (where I created and maintain the Research website on our intranet). Sadly to say after a staff cutback many years ago, I was a one-person library with some excellent volunteer help and oncall librarians for additional backup or special projects.
